Emily Grant is a Staff Attorney at the Trial Impact Project. Emily has litigated cases in federal and state courts and in arbitration, with experience spanning trial and appellate litigation. She brings a longstanding commitment to civil rights and public interest litigation, with work focused particularly on policing, prisoners’ rights and conditions of confinement, immigration, housing, and democratic participation.

Before joining TIP, Emily was an associate at Bird Marella and Irell & Manella and a law clerk to Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Her pro bono practice included impact litigation involving Measure ULA and civil rights amicus work addressing immigration enforcement, access to the courts, and housing rights. Emily previously worked as a full-time student attorney at the MacArthur Justice Center, litigating cases involving prisoners’ rights, policing, wrongful convictions, and pretrial detention. Emily has also worked in election protection for nearly a decade, including as an election observer at the Cook County Jail, an Election Protection poll watcher and call-center captain, and an Election Resource Liaison with the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations.

Outside the office, you can find Emily picking up books from the Los Angeles Public Library faster than she can make her way through her to-be-read stack, baking challah, or convincing friends to play her in a card game.
